Crisis stabilization services provide short term intensive mental health care to individuals who are experiencing an acute psychiatric crisis. The goal is to address and stabilize mental health needs as early as possible.

Crisis stabilization services provide intensive short-term mental health care to non-hospitalized individuals experiencing an acute crisis of psychiatric nature. The goal is to address and stabilize the acute mental health needs at the earliest possible time.

With ongoing services, the aim is to avert hospitalization (or re-hospitalization), provide high assurance of safety and security in the least restrictive environment, and mobilize the resources of the community, family member, and other support systems for ongoing maintenance, rehabilitation, and recovery.


 

SERVICE GOALS

  1. Address and stabilize the acute mental health needs at the earliest possible time with ongoing services;
  2. Avert hospitalization or re-hospitalization; 
  3. Mobilize the resources of the community support system, family members, and others for ongoing maintenance, rehabilitation, and recovery; and
  4. Provide a high assurance of safety and security in the least restrictive environment.

PLEASE NOTE: Individuals with medical conditions which require hospital care; Individuals with a primary diagnosis of substance use disorder; or Individuals posing as an imminent danger to self or others are not appropriate for Crisis Stabilization Services.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Referred applicants will be deemed appropriate if they are:

  • Exhibiting difficulty in cognitive ability (such that the individual is unable to recognize personal danger or recognize significantly inappropriate social behavior).
  • Exhibiting such inappropriate behaviors that immediate interventions by mental health, social services, or the judicial system or have been necessary.
  • Experiencing difficulty in activities of daily living such as maintaining personal hygiene, preparing food and maintaining adequate nutrition, or managing finances to such a degree that health or safety is jeopardized.
  • Experiencing difficulty in establishing and maintaining normal interpersonal relationships to such a degree that they are at risk of psychiatric hospitalization or homelessness or isolation from social supports.
